On page optimisation is a key aspect of SEO and is all about building content which will be easy for your visitors to navigate and will rank well in search engine results for your chosen keywords.

There are a number of important aspects of the optimisation process:

• Having a logical website structure which groups related keywords and a site map that makes it easy for visitors to navigate your site and for the searcg engines to find and index all of your content
• ensuring that your keywords are included in all the important places on your web pages (e.g. page titles, headings, meta descriptions, meta tags and image tags)
• having a proper internal linking structure
• building outbound links to content on other sites that is highly relevant to the keywords you want to rank for
• ensuring you have the appropriate keyword frequency, positioning and density
• using lots of long tail keywords and variations on your primary keywords so the text appears natural and will attract healthy levels of targeted traffic
• using the appropriate permlink structure and anchor text (the clickable text of a link) when linking to other sites
• the amount of content on your site
• how frequently your content is updated.

Although your on-page keyword usage only accounts for around 15% of your page rank in the Google algorithm it is crucial to providing a good user experience and something you need to get right before starting to build links to your website.
